National Informatics Centre (NIC) was established in 1976, and has since emerged as a “prime builder” of e-Governance applications up to the grassroots level as well as a promoter of digital opportunities for sustainable development.
NIC helps in setting up ICT infrastructure of various government departments along with assistance in implementation of e-governance projects.

Job Profile at NIC

The job profile and responsibilities of a Scientist at NIC are:

  1. Design and Development of ICT Solutions: Scientists at NIC are responsible for designing and developing various ICT solutions that can be used by the government for various purposes. They work on developing applications, websites, databases, and other software solutions that cater to the needs of the government.
  2. Technical Consultation: Scientists at NIC also provide technical consultation to the government departments on various ICT-related issues. They advise on the selection of appropriate technology, software, and hardware solutions for the government's projects.
  3. Project Management: Scientists at NIC also play a crucial role in project management. They lead the team of developers and other professionals involved in the project and ensure that the project is completed within the specified time and budget.

NIC: Qualifications

  1. For  Scientist B : Student must have :
    • A Pass in Bachelor Degree in Engineering OR Bachelor in Technology OR Department of Electronics and Accreditation of Computer Courses B-level OR Associate Member of Institute of Engineers OR Graduate Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers OR Master Degree in Science (MSc) OR Master Degree in Computer Application OR Master Degree in Engineering /Technology (ME /M.Tech) OR Master Degree in Philosophy (M Phil) in the field as mentioned below:-

Electronics, Electronics and Communication, Computer Sciences, Communication, Computer and Networking Security, Computer Application, Software System, Information Technology, Information Technology Management, Informatics, Computer Management, Cyber law, Electronics and Instrumentation.

  1. For  Scientific Officer / Engineer-SB and Scientific/Technical Assistant-A : Student must have :
    • MCA OR M.Sc. /MS/B.E./B.Tech in Electronics, Electronics and Communication, Electronics & telecommunications, Computer Sciences, Computer and Networking Security, Software System, Information Technology, Informatics.
  1. The candidate should have obtained the essential qualification on the date of closing of application (as on 04/04/2023).
  2. The candidates should not be greater than 30 years as on 4 April 2023. However, age relaxations to category students are applicable as per the government norms.

NIC: Important Dates

Students can apply online on https://www.calicut.nielit.in/nic23 between 4 March 2023 to 4 April 2023.

NIC: Application Fees

All SC/St/PwD/Women candidates are exempted from any fees. However, all General and other category candidates are required to pay a non-refundable fee of Rs 800 per post which can be paid online at the time of filling of application form.

NIC: Selection Process

  1. For Scientist “B‟ and Scientific Officer / Engineer-SB Posts: Selection will be done through a written examination and interview
  2. Scientific/Technical Assistant – “A‟ Post: Selection will be done through a written examination.
  3. The written examination will be in ONLINE mode and the question paper would consist of 120 nos. of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) to be answered in a maximum time of 3 hours.
  4. The medium of written examination shall be in English only.
  5. The question paper will consists of 65% questions from Technical Area and 35% questions from Generic Area.
  6. Every question will carry 1 (one) mark and there will be negative marking of 0.25 mark for each wrong answer.
  7. The minimum percentage to qualify the written examination will be 50% for General/EWS, 40% for OBC, 30% for the SC/ST/PWD categories. The cut –off marks specified would be applicable in the overall marks (i.e., Technical/Generic Combined) as well as for each section (Technical/Generic) separately.
